Who we are

URSA (Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency) is a Calgary-based, non-profit agency established in 1985. Our objective is to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities in community settings with an inherent belief that institutional settings cannot provide the same quality of life for our clients. URSA believes that individuals' services should be offered in a 'wholistic' manner; we consider the whole person and include their social and spiritual needs, emotional well-being, and family and community involvement to enhance all aspects of their lives.

We focus on innovative and creative programs that have made us a leader in the field when it comes to supporting individuals with disabilities. Our culture is based on a "family' atmosphere, offering unique settings at all our sites that focus on a strong work ethic, fun, and engaged teams, which is key to our success.

Program Highlight: Kootenay Lodge

URSA’s Kootenay Lodge was designed to provide safe, supportive, community-based housing for Indigenous people with disabilities that are at-risk and experiencing homelessness.

Kootenay Lodge promotes safety, growth, learning, and happiness in an environment that respects and works to honour Indigenous customs and culture including; traditional ceremonies, food, activities, and community living. This program consults with and is educated by the Medicine Wheel and elders within the community to provide support and services that address the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of residents.

Program Highlight: Children's Homes

Our Children's homes focus on providing supports that meet the needs of medically complex and fragile children and youth and their natural supports. These dedicated programs were created to meet the unique needs of children with disabilities who, due to extenuating circumstances, cannot be at home right now.
These programs focus on creating and environment that fosters positive childhood experiences while meeting developmental milestones and addressing their unique medical needs.
